People who think this planet was created for humans to be ours are so wild to me

70% of the planets surface is undrinkable uninhabitable death water that sharks love. How is that a human-centric design.

the earth was created for various types of crabs

I am losing my mind

Convoys of ambulances taking the injured out of Gaza to get treated in Egypt (as agreed and coordinated between all parties) got targeted by Israeli warplanes

The convoys were in three separate parts of Gaza and all of them were targeted and bombed.

15 killed so far and tens are severely wounded.

I literally just posted a couple of hours ago about Israel deliberately targeting civilian cars fleeing the north in response to death threats and now this

This is as deliberate as can be

Israel is literally revelling in its impunity. This is exactly what happens when cunts run around in circles when Israel's crimes are brought up. Literal massacres against medical convoys. Just like there were massacres against refugee camps and massacres in hospitals and literal schools.

Keep advocating, keep posting, talk about this and call israel what it is: a terrorist state.

imagine dealing w an international crisis involving precious artifacts and someone is like ‘don’t worry I know a guy’ and it’s a dorky connecticut college professor named henry who slips into his slutsona and suddenly he’s capable of saving the world w the power of his whip & fedora

you don’t know where the guy is. you don’t know where the guy is going. but you do know he’s on the case w a 98% success rate and his tits are out

I said what I said!

For all of my US followers for whom general public official election day is coming up (Nov. 7th) PLEASE do not become so disillusioned with the current state of higher power politicians that you skip out on voting for local offices; off year and local elections are already critically unemphasized but these are the people who have the most direct power over jails, police, school curriculum, etc. Do not let your grief be weaponized as a distraction from also continuing to fight police brutality, queer and bipoc censorship in schools, bodily autonomy, housing inequality, etc, on the smaller scale battlefields where every vote truly does count

i believe in accessibility so ive been trying to keep the tone of my posts entry-level and relatively civil. i can afford this much because im not palestinian so i have some degree of removal. but if you guys saw the state of my inbox, you would understand why refusing to justify, explain or clarify anything might be more dignified. there are almost ten thousand people dead right now. i feel like a lot of people are just not understanding the weight of this. more children have been killed in gaza in the past three weeks than in all of the world’s conflicts combined in each of the past three years. this is so far beyond crime, so far beyond mass murder, that sometimes i think entertaining questions about it at all is complicity in and of itself. in a normal world, the entire global apparatus, every international body, would be falling over itself to stop this. the prospect of so many civilians—and most significantly children—dead is actually the worst-case scenario. it is what international law was created to prevent. i say children specifically not because adult palestinians are not equally valuable, but because this is a war on children. gaza's population is 50% children. these airstrikes are most lethal on the smallest and most vulnerable bodies. entire buildings are crumbling on kids. they are being murdered in their homes, by their homes.

deliberately. by people with the most advanced military and surveillance technology in the world. by people who know exactly where every single civilian in gaza is. by people who have their phone numbers and send them threatening texts. by people who have drones observing their every movement. by people who are watching them starve, bombing their bakeries, barricading their water. they bring down buildings on children on purpose.

it's a genocide. and still we talk.

I always wonder if it would help making a general post about dental care tips so here goes. (For reference, I am able to provide this guidance under supervision usually in a hospital setting, so this information is correct and expected of me when treating patients).

Brushing 2x day is important, even once a day if you can, do it before you sleep because that’s when you’re not swallowing and flushing out your mouth so plaque stays stagnant and causes trouble.

Use a fluoride toothpaste - it is the single most impactful component in our modern hygiene ritual from the past 40y that has reduced the amount of caries we see in patients.

Spit, do NOT rinse after brushing. Not even with mouthwash. Just spit the excess toothpaste out. Trust me. You’ll get used to it after 2 days!

Please floss. Find the best way for you - use floss, flossettes or the tepe brushes. 1x a day is the optimal amount, before you sleep. 40% of plaque is between the teeth!

A Waterpik cannot replace floss, it can feel nice but you need to mechanically scrape away plaque and bits of food stuck in there.

If you can, use an electric toothbrush cause it can be helpful with timing and pressure sensing.

2 minutes of brushing is a lot longer than you’d think. Have a go at timing it and see what you find :).

Make sure you’re replacing your brushes/brush heads every 3 months or once the bristles fray.

Keep in mind the amount of pressure you’re placing when you brush - you don’t need a lot otherwise you’ll traumatise your gums.

If you wish to use a mouthrinse, you can at any time other than brushing (unless the rinse is prescribed). The reasoning for this is the fluoride content is significantly lower and will essentially wash away the toothpaste fluoride you’ve just applied, rendering it meaningless and your teeth are unprotected. You can have a look at the packaging- most toothpastes are around 1400ppm whereas mouthrinse is 350ppm.

Avoid charcoal and whitening toothpastes. They’re too abrasive and will wear away your teeth if you use them. If you really want to use a whitening toothpaste, do it 1/week and avoid foods/drinks that stain e.g. coffee, wine etc once you’ve used it.

Charcoal blocks fluoride uptake in the teeth so seriously avoid it. It’s not going to help.

Don’t forget your tongue! Scrape it with your brush or you can get tongue scrapers. The tongue is a reservoir of bacteria and can replenish unfavourable bacteria species population after brushing, leading to some bad breath.

If you find your mouth is quite dry, you may have xerostomia which could be caused by a number of things. It is a common side effect of many medications so keep this in mind and drink water :). Saliva is really helpful in maintaining the health of your mouth so we want to make sure we’re maintaining that role!

SPD additions based on other comments and what I’ve read around the subject so far.

1. Been reading and for those with SPD, Silicone brushes are becoming more common and are sometimes found to help patients with SPD or aversion to the nylon bristles in conventional toothbrushes.

There’s also oral swabs, 3 sided toothbrush, 360° brushes or suction brushes to help reduce the foam/build up in the mouth. You could also spit whilst brushing to replicate this.

2. Using other flavours of toothpaste e.g. bubblegum or fruits to avoid the minty taste of most toothpastes or using different forms e.g. toothpaste tabs, mousse or gels which feel different to conventional SLS toothpastes. Make sure they still have fluoride.

3. Performing other tasks whilst brushing to distract from the sensations, also not being in the same environment like the bathroom to brush your teeth so that you’re not as stressed.

4. Using a weighted blanket or noise cancelling headphones at the dentist could also work at home.

5. Using a video or song to time yourself and get more relaxed when brushing.

6. Try building up the toothpaste amount so none, a smear and then .5 pea size then full pea size over time to get accustomed to the feeling.

i have a couple more tips for issues that i learned about the hard way, and are much better to prevent than treat.

firstly, when you brush, make sure you’re brushing all the way to the back of your last molars

i thought i was brushing well, but between the tight space at my mandible joint and my gag reflex, i just wasn’t getting those rear molars and i started to develop gum disease just in those back four teeth. now i have gum pockets back there and i have to be very diligent in brushing there every time.

second, grinding and clenching is serious business

you’ve probably heard that grinding is really bad, but i had no idea that my clenching was a big deal until my dentist told me i had actually fractured one of my own teeth by clenching my jaw in my sleep, and if it got any worse at all i’ll need a crown on that tooth.

i got a really expensive night guard (though still much cheaper than crowns) that i wear every time i sleep, but there are a variety of cheap over the counter dental guards available. if you clench, please take it seriously and wear a dental guard to sleep.

yes, it’s fucking annoying, but you get used to it, i promise. the first few times i wore it, i managed to spit it out in my sleep despite it being extremely snug, but now i barely even notice it. my mother had to get a bunch of crowns, and believe me, you don’t fucking want crowns.

More money than any of us here will ever see in our lives, taken directly from our taxes, is funding death and destruction unfathomable across the ocean. Not universal healthcare, not schools, nothing good. Just death.

Keep protesting, keep up using your voice, and don't lose hope, we owe Palestine that much

something i’ve been thinking about lately is like. growing up muslim right after 9/11 is something i’d never really reflected on much because it was all i’d ever known — at 5, my friend’s mum didn’t let her invite me to her birthday party because i was the only brown girl in our class, at 12, my classmates would joke about my family being part of isis, at 16, my dad was interrogated by american airport security for hours — and it always stung and it always hurt but it was just the way things were because the western world hated muslims. but i don’t think i’ve ever fully comprehended the extent to which we were hated until now.

palestine is being turned into a mass graveyard. every single day there are new photos of the atrocities being carried out against them and videos of them pleading for help and still those who can actually intervene turn a blind eye. israel is claiming to only be targeting hamas “terrorists” while bombing a refugee camp. israeli police raided and assaulted a non-zionist jewish neighbourhood. israeli soldiers are posting tiktoks of them torturing captured palestinians. this is not a complicated issue and it never has been. ethnic cleansing is being committed right in front of us. and yet the western world leaders refuse to call for a ceasefire.

and while zionist organisations accuse pro-palestine demonstrations of anti-semitism, while zionist celebrities insist that they’re afraid to leave their mansions in los angeles, a six year old muslim boy was stabbed to death and his mother wounded in the same attack in chicago. a muslim doctor was murdered while sitting outside her apartment complex in texas. hundreds of peaceful protesters have been arrested (many of whom have been jewish). despite what zionists want you to believe, this is not a jewish/muslim conflict. i have so much love and gratitude to my brave jewish brothers and sisters all over the world who are condemning israel for their actions.

ultimately, israel have been granted impunity by the west. they have slaughtered thousands upon thousands of innocent palestinians. they have bombed hospitals and schools indiscriminately. they have used white phosphorus, violating the geneva convention. they have completely eradicated nearly 900 bloodlines. how many more need to be wiped out? how many more children need to be buried underneath the rubble? how many more doctors need to be confronted with the bodies of their own family members? how many more journalists need to detail the horrific acts of violence they are witnessing? what more can be done to the palestinian people that has not been done already?

i truly believe that palestine will be free one day. i believe the palestinian people will receive the justice they finally deserve. but what breaks my heart is how much they have suffered and will continue to suffer before they are deemed worthy of help. and it would be to all of our detriment if we ignored how much of a factor palestine being a predominantly muslim state has played into the way the world has reacted to their genocide.

All Saints' Wake 2023 Potted Voidsent 'insults' based on race. In order: Hyur, Au Ra, Elezen, Lalafell, Viera, Roegadyn, Miqo'te.

Lalafell courtesy of @/paddito on the ffxiv swap discord, and Roegadyn courtesy of @amons-hat-enthusiast. If anyone has the Hrothgar one, it would be an appreciated addition. :D

actually you know what that's exactly it i would rather someone add 5 parantheticals after every sentence than use tone indicators it's 1. accomplishing SO much more in terms of clarity 2. extremely funny to look at depending on how they're used

observe:

"is this real? /gen" — i thought /gen meant "general" for ages. i would not be able to understand this on first sight a few years ago and is thus ineffective

"is this real? (genuine question)" — i fully understand this without issue

"is this real? (genuine question) (can't tell) (very realistic) (looks real) (scary) (photoshop?)" — is not only incredibly clear it's also very funny to read all of these thoughts stapled together while also in their own parentheses. it's also the most useful because now i can actually address all parts of what they are asking me with as much specificity as BOTH of us need

parentheses my beloved (they are for bonus thoughts) (and questions) ( and sidetracks) (like a 2nd conversation on top of the first)

sup
